As Christians, we often turn to God’s inspired Word in our times of need. And during a season of grieving following the loss of a loved one, our faith may be tried. Turning to His word to find the right scriptures for grieving is a sign of our faith.
Through His Word, God promises to comfort us and answer our prayers. Below are several scriptures from which we may draw strength.
Popular Scriptures for Grieving
The LORD is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.
For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning.
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
For the Lord does not abandon anyone forever. Though he brings grief, he also shows compassion according to the greatness of his unfailing love.
Lamentations 3:22-26; 31-32
I will turn their mourning into gladness. I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.
God blesses those people who grieve. They will find comfort
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose
Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.
Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
