Classic Rock and Funerals are not often considered in the same breath and admittedly the paring is not for everyone. If the deceased was a fan and the selection appropriately reflects their personality, then go for it, a little splash of the unexpected may be just what is needed to make the ceremony unforgettable. Here’s a list of what we think are the best classic rock funeral songs to help you let the creative flag fly.
Best Classic Rock Funeral Songs
Tears in Heaven – Eric Clapton – this is already a beautify song but it resonates so well in a funeral setting because the loss of a young son is what inspired Clapton to write this song.
Imagine – John Lennon – Lennon was a legendary song writer and this song is profoundly capable of capturing our (no pun intended) imagination.
Stairway to Heaven – Led Zeppelin – Zeppelin is my favorite rock band so of course this tune will play at my funeral and it’ll make this list for me every time.
Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd
Forever Young – Bob Dylan
End of the Line – Traveling Wilburys – This tune is a little playful so it’s not for everyone but in the right circumstance or setting it might be perfect.
Yesterday – The Beatles
Bridge Over Troubled Waters – Simon and Garfunkel – This is another favorite song of mine, I believe the tone and tenor of the song make it appropriate is a setting such as this.
Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door – Guns N’Roses – This a Dylan classic but GnR did a respectable cover. There’s no subtly in the selection but that’s part of what makes it so great.
Let it Be – Beatles
Death is Not the End – Bob Dylan
In My Life – Beatles
The Long and Winding Road – Beatles
Turn, Turn, Turn – The Byrds – This is another great selection for a life celebration ceremony
You’ll Be In My Heart – Phil Collins
Beautiful Day – U2 – This is an upbeat and inspiring song. It would make a great selection for a celebration of life ceremony where the celebration of a well loved decedent, of a life well lived is indeed make for a beaultiful day
Fields of Gold – Sting
